Unlock Anzac

Unlock Anzac is an initiative created for Metro Tunnel. The initiative was created in response to COVID-19, aiming to revitalise the surrounding precinct of the new Anzac Station and encourage the community to re-engage with the area while feeling safe.

Collaborating in a team of four, Unlock Anzac employs innovative installations that unlock the local culture of Anzac precinct to assist with safe navigation and vibrant revitalisation. To ensure that the initiative can adapt to restriction changes, Studio Harp (my team), created three stages to gradually transition from a virtual to an on-site experience. Stage one is solely virtual, consisting of a website and mobile app. Stage two begins the transition into an on-site experience, featuring a mini publication that is a guide to the Anzac precinct. Stage three promotes the on-site experience featuring Anzac Gateway.

Anzac Gateway

The installation acts as the Gateway to the Anzac precinct, featuring five archways representing the five experiences of Unlock Anzac. Inside each arch, personalised maps for each experience are placed, highlighting the fundamental locations and attractions. Small lights are positioned on the roof, and at night this will not only illuminate the space, but it will also look like the night sky with many stars shinning. The front and back of the arches are decorated in the specific colour of the section, allowing the user to identify the five experiences. As the Anzac precinct is a COVID safe precinct, circles are placed on the floor 2m apart to encourage social distancing. Printed on the dot is also the COVID safe logo, ensuring visitors feel protected when visiting the area.

The maps highlight the current location of the Anzac gateway, and also show the location of the businesses and attractions in the Anzac precinct per experience. This encourages the user to interact with the map and visit these locations. The interactivity of the map is generated through NFC chips. The chips are positioned behind the printout; one chip will be installed behind each highlighted location. Users can place their phone near a location, and using the app additional information on the location along with directions will be displayed. If the user does not own the app, they can place their phone near the Anzac gateway location on the map and using an NFC reader on their phone; this will guide them directly to download the app. I designed the installation but the branding, the base maps and app design were created by other group members.
